The interior design of your home is a project all of its own, and it takes time and commitment to keep on top of the latest interior design trends from season to season. To assist you in your search for home style inspiration, we have created our interior design trend predictions for the coming winter months, to help you get ahead of the style curve.
Geometric wall murals
This season you have the chance to get creative with colour. Featured walls are going to the next level, with geometric wall murals getting more popular by the day, especially in teal, greys and pale pinks. Choose from a triangle patterns, Art Deco shapes, or design something completely unique of your own. For example, try painting a mural, or investing in some wall stickers that make it easier to try out the trend (and they’re a little less time-consuming than painting a design by hand).
Big, bold knits
Knitwear won’t just be for the wardrobe; we expect chunky knits are going to be a big feature in interior design and furnishings. Cable and ribbed knits are the pattern of choice, and will be seen in throws, cushions and poufs this season. The perfect winter-warmer for the colder months, this is an easy seasonal trend for you to embrace.
Au naturel
Furniture is going to look a lot less polished for the rest of the year, with more raw materials, such as oak and steel, being left in a raw, unfinished state. Try this trend out on a reclaimed wood coffee table, which could become the feature of a room, or some industrial-style, free-stranding shelving. If you’re looking for more insights into upcoming wood interior design trends, our recent blog post has some valuable tips.
Highland flings
Every winter we welcome check and tartan back into interior design, and 2017 is no exception. The style this year is country house, with neutral colours like beiges and pastels helping to create this look. Jump into the trend with both feet with tartan wallpaper or curtains, or add touches of tartan through cushions, throws and headboards.
A grey area
When it comes to colour schemes, we’re predicting even more grey during the winter months. Grey is the new neutral, so use it as a base and build a room around it. Embrace the colour even further by going all grey, with different shades on your walls, and in your furniture and accessories.
Velvet
We’re anticipating more velvet than ever in the home this winter. The luxurious fabric makes the home feel cosy, and adds an interesting texture – especially when contrasted with the raw, untreated oak and steel furniture. Velvet 1970s-style chairs and headboards are a stylish way to incorporate this fabric into your home.
Colours to watch out for
As we move from this year and into the next, colour trends look to be changing. Greys, pastel colours, greens and teals have captured people’s imagination, and will still be prominent in the coming season. It looks like colours will be warming-up towards the end of the year too, with red and burnt yellow furnishings coming into play in early 2018.
